HRC- high ropes course
Usually I would be rolling in bed till 2/3am forcing myself to sleep but I didn't do that here :D with my portable first aid and protective light and emergency fire extinguisher (water bottle), I survived 3 nights plus one in ubin.

At first it seemed insurmountable to memorize the entire manual. We received it just 5 minutes before our first lesson. My group started of with IRC which was so scary because we were unsure of what to bring up (for me atleast). Yet, it looked less new to me. Coaching and dispatching is nerve wrecking especially when your participant's have full confidence with you handling the tools.

So many names and details I didn't know that was important but by the third day, it wasnt as much information as I assumed it was.

FFC #FINAL EX

This was the plan and we didn't know what our team will be doing. So it was a surprise. While others were planning and revising for our final test, I was impatient for my first sem results. It was released at 8.15am while I was donning my full PPE without BA mask plugged in. When Lithan gave the the news (I used his hotspot and thus he decided that he ha the authority to review my results first) and he said "go SIM already lah". Wow.
Then my mood just dived deep down although I didn't say much about it. I didn't even get a chance to lament and whine as we headed off for our morning Physical Training where I was wondering what was I doing with my youth. And that, I didn't regret.

I'm just an ordinary human blessed with extraordinary experiences.

And off we went and it was hot and we were already punctured before we went in. I was under Rescue & Evacuation. After all the run and search, we got to know Sandy was found at the fire floor which pissed us all. Ugh so unprepared and near death by then. The compressed air kept gushing into my face whenever I bent down. But it was all worth it.

FFC #daily routine
Day two was more of introducing the appliances. It was tiring for my brain to absorb the different tools. Caf gun was so cool especially because I got to parade with the dummy for scdf day parade previously. It has less pressure as compared to water mist gun and it can be changed. It uses the concept of foam to fight fire. Our bodies were in pain.

And on day 3 we got to break cars and shatter glass. Letting our rage out and damaging appliances leave a really satisfying feeling. And laying hoses and pumping water to lfav (light fire attack vehicle) was exhausting. Just our luck, one of our teams didn't do a proper cuppling and the hose went flying, forming a dangerous dancing hose. It was x100 heavier and harder to manoeuvre and roll back hoses with water in it. Rolling 3 of 64mm hoses consecutively tired my body and I just had to stop and sit down. Mind you, we were in full bunker gear and the heavy helmets. While resting I got to see my ex-colleague in marine training and he smiled although he looked like he was about to give up. #sameootd

Then we had to do a full dry run at the 5th storey and damn I had no strength by then.

Because we ended half an hour earlier, they decided to push us further and test our stamina by jogging the IPPT route in full firefighting PPE. And I wanted to cry. We were already wet with the mock firefighting and then we drowned in our own perspiration. The feeling was disgusting ans sticky because we went home in the same uniform.

We had to prepare mentally for our final expedition for the next day.

FFC #adapting
Day one was not a huge shock because it was a mix of explaining and physical work. Donned our bunker gear straight away and everyone couldn't resist from snapping a selfie.
I had my moments too haha.
Revised the proper methods of how to operate the equipment and how to check for safety purposes. Ser hui and I were so afraid of having speed flying cylinders so we did it terribly slowly.

I was more frustrated than disappointed in my body as it couldn't take the BAPT (breathing apparatus physical training) and BA maze. After all that, we had theory lesson outdoors where we were suited in bunker gear and helmet under the burning sun. They extended the maze and it was like never ending. Just like the endless ladder. I could see nothing. Not because there were no random flashes of light, but because when Im crawling and looked straight, cold compressed air will slap my face until I faced down again. It was cooling but it was annoying and dried my throat and eyes. After all that, we were fortunate to be in an air conditioned room to rest for more than an hour. Left with wet top and bottoms.

Awkwardest question of the day, "Why you bring your first aid kit to the toilet?"
Krik Krik. "err ok don't answer that"

It stands for Singapore Global Firefighters & Paramedic Competition.

On 12th Sept, we had our "Heats". And our team consists of Rejab, Amirah, Iskandar, Dexter, Amos, Guo Wei, Rusyaidi and I. Ncdcc formed three teams and many mistook it and exagerated it to a brouhaha as against batches. Infact, during the heats itself, we were all cheering for one another and supported mentally. Because that confidence in ourselves and trust in one another is itself a strength booster.

Hoist the Jerrycan to allow your team to enter the man made confined space. Speedily hop through tyres. Split tasks- CPR+ AED team, forceful entry+ lower limb immobility team and fire fighting team. The umpire kept emphasizing the penalties which helped us remember them. And everything was so blur when youre nervous and cold.

But the actual competition and heats was so exciting. And we got to see the real fire fighters in action with their different materials and extreme rescue methods I never thought possible. We sang out loud as we waited for 2 hours (because the host's voice and the cheering filled the expo hall). And before that, we danced and kallang waved to wash away the nerves from the excitement. Support from Encik, cadets and mates was more than enough for us.

Laugh like nobody's business. Who cares?

SCDF Day Parade Ncdcc Contingent

This is my first event after exams besides  PDC (Precision drill competition) day. It was a lively and naughty batch of cadets Amanda, Syafiqah and I took who would talk as much when an opportunity arises. It was a tough schedule but we gotta learn to sacrifice sleep eventually. And when you go for training with the ones you love, it's no longer a boring one. Honestly, I really like taking care of those who fall out when they have a valid reason. It's the time when you get to know more about that individual, share your experiences and give advices.

But the most special thing about this parade that it's for the Singapore civil defence force and ncdcc, is the babies of the family. All the respected elite teams and every firefighter's and paramedic's  day. What if there was no war and crime and national service was just civil defence? To save lives and property. They are our everyday heroes who rushes through a hell zone and get you out safely. Can you imagine how much mental strength it takes to see people passing away infront of you? Or even the extreme injuries? Each second counts. And today we celebrate with joy of all firemen around the world. Connected by compassion. Love for the people.

And this is only part 1 of my Saturday.

Abnormal
How many times must I say? So many cadets look up to you, you have so many friends. I respect your honesty and feedback but not everyone likes it. They love the sugar coats and prefers overwhelming compliments. But you, you're abnormal. Now is that necessarily bad? Spending most of your wake hours on studying during and not during exam periods. If not, you are either going for meetings, recce, idk what you're doing but always planned ahead and time unwasted. Your body and brain is vexed at the end of the day to wake up to another full run of events. I guess this comes from the passion and deep commitment you put in. You are hungry for success yet the whole story isnt like how you have pictured it to be. Try to love without expecting a return. Seems impossible. But have that mindset to prioritise loving yourself first. (ok at this point of time, if you find me retarded, you may leave)

How would one know if he loves someone wholeheartedly if the one himself is lorn?

I totally agree that you got to sometimes take a step back to allow friends to be independent as we all are going through different experiences at the same second. We have a mind on our own and we make different choices. The indecisive, the solicitous, the benevolent, the optimist, the wise, the know-it-all, the cunning, the frivolous. Which is you?

I'm not telling or instructing or demanding you to figure yourself, because each day we hopefully learn and reflect. Reflection is a healthy exercise that not everyone can pass. It's not all about listing the  sours. Thats just the first part. How about what you have learnt and how to overcome it. How about the spicy and sweet milestones and joy. How about all the smiles and giggles you have put on people, impacting their day, their month, their thoughts. Yeah is it worth it?

Firefighters would run into a burning collapsing building saving as many people whos names they don't even know or bother to know. These casualties might have been a bully, their enemy, whatsoever, but it is compassion that keeps them moving forward. If they are injured, where are the casualties and family to help you? By just receiving a smile, their efforts are satisfied. They love without expecting a return. They literally save bodies but only the individual himself can save his own soul. You are a hero. Chin up. Fight your own fire within you.

Sore
I have sore arms and back for three straight days. Nevertheless, I returned and geared up. :) More than satisfied with the accomplishments which I myself didn't expect to get and how much I could teach and how I gained people more than twice my mass' trust. HEHHEHEHE.

Sadly, I didn't managed to conquer the 25m wall which a small child could. And that my muscle ached halfway while leading the last wall and I didn't finish it. Thus Lithan had to help complete 4 more rings.

Kid on a malicious crack YAY. I made a lot of painful noises, whining, complaining and screaming for directions when I'm about to drop, but thank god Keith wasnt easily vexed and could endure belaying me, phew. The last 2 metres forced us to use the starfish method which was extremely torturous to my arms! It scraped a lot of my senior's tees and harness but I came down clean.

Carpe Diem!

Carefree
I like this feeling where you don't open up your photos to read your notes when you're outside. When I look through my friends' photos (with permission) somehow most of them have pictures of notes/ slides or workings. But since they are all deleted and we don't have to worry about major events like promos, we are freeeeeee! Well for 5 more weeks. But I have and will spend it very carefully and enjoy the extremes while it lasts.

Coach's last word of advice:
A $7/9 pay per hour might seem enough for you now, but remember that you don't have as much responsibilities as you will in 3 years time.
SO ENJOY THE FREEDOM LA!

Singapore Night Festival - Who's eville?
We entered a mini wordplay and boy I didn't regret waiting for 5 minutes for it. It addressed problems faced in Singapore that are deemed as "unimportant" or "minority". The theme was Who's evil?

Racism. A clip of collected responses from children around the block about different races in Singapore. What makes Chinese people unique? Money, small eyes, yellow. What makes malay people unique? They work at Macdonalds, likes ghost stories, brownish. Doesn't that make you wonder, who is responsible for feeding these information into their heads? Are children the future evil or their parents?

Criticism. There was a slouched, lifeless man who sat on a chair emotionless as he listens to his boss and colleagues spitting negative remarks continuously. Beside the power source, a sign that wrote "Unplug me" which shows his desire to make it shut up but he isnt doing anything about it. This represents workers who are bullied and cannot escape the harsh "reality" because they prefer keeping their job and sucking the pain instead of standing up for themselves and knowing their rights. The effect causes workers to be slaves, taking information and executing it while barked at with Why aren't you done yet? You're useless! This is not up to standard. I can hire better people. If you don't .....

Anonymous cyber bullying. A blackboard with three human beings. We were encouraged to draw anything we want on the people who are claimed to be bad models of society. "Just draw, noone knows its you. Sometimes its good to let out your anger and rage to other people and enjoy the pleasure of them suffering" they urged us. Drawings such as wounds, breasts, devil's horn, gun pointing towards their heads were observed right in front of my eyes. We are okay with hurting another person as long as they do not find out who we are. Who's the real evil?

Label. On each of the crew's shirt, was a word that describes them. They have honourable skillsets, values, qualities but because of one noticeable characteristic, they are identified and grouped together with others with the same characteristic. Halo effect. Stereotypes. Primacy effect. Similar to me errors. We all make judgements unconsciously. But who's the real evil?

This was amazing and I dare say it raised so much awareness to many Singaporeans. They were fantastic in conveying the messages in the most creative and real way possible. Watching left over food, identities and names I might jokingly have grouped people in the society, the guilt took over me. What seems fun and harmless can be hurtful or others. Watch what you say watch what you think watch what you do.
