Tuesday, March 15, 2016 @ 11:07 PMDifferent lens
Unfortunate bodies who are given the inconvenient life challenge of myopia have to check their eye health once in awhile. There will be the process of getting new spectacle lenses, adjustment of contact lens degrees but also unnecessarily, design of spectacles frame and contact lens colours. All these fixes are either for pleasing your eyes aesthetically or literally.I too, go through the change in lens, figuratively. This semester break, I'm getting my third pair of glasses. No new activities, same interests, familiar faces, just with my new set of eyes. It is incredible, how when you lay back, start observing conversations instead of contributing ideas and views, and watch where it leads and how it is concluded. No longer do I have that strong urge to resist against an idea that I do not believe in. Especially when you are in an area where signal and data are hard to detect, it forces us to entertain each other without prank videos and snapchat. It is amazing, I love it. back to top? |

Saturday, August 1, 2015 @ 11:13 PMIcamp 2015
I think I would never express my feelings enough if I did not write. We do have debrief sessions everyday, even after each training, or dance practice (yes we do), I mostly convey alot of feedback for others' and my improvement. This camp took 2 months of planning on my side and others were booking locations, food, admin, promoting the camp, choreographing our performance, creating camp cheers. And for my first camp ever in poly, I doubled the role of a committee (programme coordinator), game master and a group leader. I can't believe I survived it. This may come off as a conceit, but it's just me giving myself a pat on the back on my less-than-5-viewers blog haha. Purely no intention to boast.
It wasn't a sacrifice when I chose to go for meetings instead of my other cca because honestly, this cca is my priority. Meetings with group leaders, and committee afterwards; they end on average 10.45pm.
Designing the flag, identity, pre trial camp, trial camp, emailing, midnight calls for proposal submission, cancellation of activities. Our camp chief was struggling x3 with the stress. It didn't end there. There was still the camp and beautiful weather. And as a gl, a lot of my energy was drained from the night briefings.
I learnt too much to make a list from my roles and even from the campers. Never have I had the platform of meeting a bunch of adventure enthusiasts with cooking skills hehe. I experienced the "whatever decisions you make, it will never please anyone". I learnt to prioritize people over task very much.
And my challenge was my responsibility to give enough food, care and love for my bunnies back at the loft.
Mission accomplished.

Monday, June 1, 2015 @ 12:01 AMWe only have one body
The part where every excited soul is given only one body is driving me crazy. I separate these activities into different categories where I consider the following: Compulsory, Optional, Stress Relief, Education, Family, Friends, Self reward, Positive, Negative, Energy level. For example, ODAC vs Promotional ceremony vs Unit annual camp. ODAC is physical training and they needed helpers but Im not in the main committee so I'm not obliged to help all the time eventhough they are my friends; promotional ceremony is stress free as there is no preparation or much things to do and to reward myself for going to school and enduring; unit annual camp is annual hah and definitely stressful, education of juniors and friends. ODAC: compulsory, extremely high energy, stress relief. PC: compulsory, low energy, stress relief, self reward. UC: optional, extremely high energy, positive, education. = life is a hard decision and at times you have to make decisions, and I took up the CLT course so I have to do my "job" and commit to what I signed up for. Or you can run away by saying "I got no choice what", we all have choices. Friday, April 24, 2015 @ 11:46 PMSilent pledge
I experienced listening with my eyes and talking with my
hands.
We started our silent pledge in school before we traveled around
Singapore. It was one of the most eye-opening days because literally, we walked
in the shoes of the hearing impaired. My first 5 minutes challenge was not the
ayam penyet- because I could point to the picture to order, but the lady who
took the order and said to her colleague in a mother tongue “got mouth but
cannot open to use”. I guess I would get her frustration as she might see it as
a form of disrespect, and I didn’t even try explaining cause I had no clue on
how I should start. I walked away. So I didn’t buy drinks because the words
were so high and small I couldn’t possibly point accurately. That was my first
10 minutes of silence.
I can truly empathize from watching videos without sound, trying to lip read to the stares we received on public transports. It felt like we were a walking anomaly amongst the talking.
My brain and hands coordinated the most today and it wasn't a blue day like CLEOPATRA's (our group name) colour.
I loved it. I love that silence does not limit us from talking about anything under the sun. I love that signing with a group in public does not make me feel any discomfort. I love that I fell in love with this beautiful language.
ps; I missed my heartbeat performance :( as it was the exact timing as NCDCC 10 Years Day Parade.
yes, its tiring rushing in and out of camp sacrificing a little of both, but this is Suzana being happy. Shall write more in a new post.Labels: be patient., camp, Everyone was so enthu, exercise, Inhale love Exhale hate., Life is a test, melting, Mission accomplished, My bag was effing huge., You think you do but you have no idea. back to top? |

Wednesday, November 26, 2014 @ 5:23 PMBCR
It's Wednesday and usually I'd end at 6pm. But today, there's a drill whereby the campus is closed and we all have to study from home. The workload is a lot more and I know I am not independent in terms of listening to lecturer's voices without seeing them moving or me sitting in a hall full of other students. I go through 3 slides and I'm off focus. What more, I'm half-lying comfortably in bed. But what makes me slightly disappointed in my day is that its a no-climb Wednesday when I have a day off from school. I want to reach and squeeze the water out of the manmade rocks and be so light that I call pull myself up with purely my arm strength. I want to explore Krabi to see what it offers but I too have to be prepared for it. Well I also have another dilemma where I want to go to 2 school trips and the adventure's dates is a subset of the Bacares' dates. And I really cannot choose. They both have Intention to Treat and all I have to do is sign up. Why cant I split into two halves and enjoy both trips? Sunday, November 2, 2014 @ 2:03 PMCan you knot?
Just 7 days ago, I was with lines and knots so I planned to spend the next Saturday exploring more of it. I'm not usually a crape-hanger but my phone got into an accident and I had to take it in for awhile hahaha. Amongst the people I mix with, Im often the anomaly. Somehow, it was destined to be as such.
So this Saturday, Aisyah plus Syahindah joined me in the mini adventure of rope-tying and this is a snippet of what we did.
ps; we wondered what were we doing on the earlier parts of our secondary school journey. So we reminisced the memories that I have mostly forgotten. Besides, I didn't "bloom" as they said I would. False hope man, fat hopes.

Thursday, March 28, 2013 @ 10:53 PMRandom day of the week.
A pencil lead pierced through my thumb and its finally out after a week and a half!
Just some overdue photos. And if bus buddy’s viewing this, HELLLO TAK MENJADI CLT.
Thanks to the rule of not using handphones for other things than communication with each other in camp, I didn’t manage to provide an album of 3D2Ns. Also, the person who left during mid camp came back with Hersheys! Mehehehe.
Which activity is a must-organise?
FINAL EX. Only in my year did we add in this event. It is a search and rescue mission where a team of cadets (usually 4) crawl their way in. They are required to apply what they’ve learnt, all the rescue techniques. As it is supposedly in a confined space, they are to squeeze through and rescue mannequins and other cadets of different weight and sizes out. Even an arm is to be saved!
Ofcourse, with the help of CLTs was the activity accepted. I got to experience being a victim for collapsing-building rescue in the dark and I finally understand how they feel. And if you need tips for final expedition,
Goodluck!

Thursday, March 21, 2013 @ 8:55 PMAED course
Before camp starts, the usual 8 of us went to HTA in full u. As we had to leave school at 12.45pm, it was a major rush for us, especially forgetting to inform our mt teachers the reason of our absence.
To make sure our uniform was in tip-top condition, we sacrificed our recess to polish our boots.
SO ANYWAY,
Advanced External Defibrillator requires CPR skills as well. While waiting for the rest to complete, we enjoyed our last moments in an air-conditioned room, sitting down, not worrying about camp. We had more than an hourKnowing cadets from other schools through courses and camps, we weren’t school-ist. Everyone conveniently tompang their wallets and phones in my bag.
One of the steps before pressing the shock button is when we had to shout, "YOU CLEAR, I CLEAR, EVERYBODY CLEAR!” hahah now tell me who didn’t do it with the accent?

Tuesday, March 12, 2013 @ 10:37 PMAdventure finale!
Just like many other cadets, I have just taken my first step into another island which does not require passports to enter. Yes! Im referring to Pulau Ubin.
The walk to the campsite was a long journey. But it was worth it- d’uh!
A mini sea expedition while we discussed on how the ferry does not rust. There was an argument on whether it was coated with paint or did they attach a more reactive metal underneath. This is what you call pre-stress a week before science focus test. While others are most probably working theirs brain out memorizing quotes/ formulas/ facts or maybe the entire textbook, we fly, skateboard in the air, walk on strings, eat food rations.
Instead of moaning on how we are always separated from our schoolmates, we accepted the fact that we would definitely be split and infact, we got excited to make new friends for our last activity before we pass out.

The flying fox was one of my favorites evethough we felt like puking on the way up the stairs. If I’m not mistaken, we jumped off a 7-8 story. Joanne and I screamed “I LOVE NCDDDDD” all the way down. They said my facial expressions was so epic. If you’re judging me right now, you do la! hahah.

Thursday, December 20, 2012 @ 12:31 PMOuward Bound Sabah 11-20 Dec 2012 #part2
Air Asia with Ma’am Siti and Sherryl (Shiffa’s friend). First thing at base camp was to eat. When I was grouped with 9 other boys and one CLT, it was awkward. On the bright side, Darren, Andy and Kinnard were one of them. The others, I eventually got to know them better.Matthew- NCC ACSI, very gullible and innocent/ Fermi- NCDCC, loved looking at shooting stars during our night duty/ Naeem- NCDCC Admiralty sec, wants to improve his stamina/ Kinnard- NCC St Andrews, doesn’t mind being gay (kidding haha), have the same interests as me/ Hafiz- NCC mat jiwang who loves his family and got homesick, also can get seasick/ Zhao yu- NCC, friendly and laughs like a spoilt engine, gullible and feels that I’m the weirdest girl ever/ Ibrahim- NCC, slow in mind games, cannot lose, a lot of initiative, funny like siao, racist to himself. First day was bonding with the group and we named ourselves ‘Kinnabalu’ which was switched to Bambarayon. It’s like Bamba + Crayon = Bambarayon.
Back-to-basic camp craft
Durian/ Jackfruit expedition
THIS IS SPARTAAA
The tent pitching was different. It consisted of a ground sheet, tent sheet, heavy ropes and we have to make our own tent pegs (unlike the metal ones provided usually). There was a lot of comparison with what I usually get and what we had at OBS.
Firewood instead of solid fuel.
Parang instead of penknives.
River water/ Aqua tap pills instead of NEWater.
Flying cockroaches instead of normal ones.
Moonlight instead of torchlight. (reflection of sunlight actually)
Wild pigs instead of teepee.
Night cold wind instead of aircon.
Bloodsucking leeches instead of the cullers.
Rivers instead of puddle.
Bushes instead of toilets.
No trail instead of manmade trails.
Canned food instead of food rations.
Actual beautiful scenery instead of motivational posters.
Mountain instead of hill.
It’s an experience I’d recommend others to go through as well :)
ps; the rest of the 365 photos are on Facebook.

Friday, November 16, 2012 @ 3:35 AMNCDCC Day Camps (12,14,16 Nov)
We experimented a little. It seems that they’re famished and can eat another plate of rice. How could we resist good food? Watermist guns finally introduced to them and most of them enjoyed the muscle building. It’s weird how we’re more lithe with the training recently. Which seems to be doing great, including the huge moist cake Ma’am bought for us.

Monday, November 5, 2012 @ 1:09 AMCamp at Pahang Tekam 4D3N
To tell you honestly, this camp made me reflect a lot on myself and how wrong things have been the past year. Leadership+ fun+ adventurous+ outdoor+ amazing camp. We abseiled a cave that we slept in. Cool or cool? Even when its not sizzling hot, the ground was foggy and we could literally feel the moist and witness the fog swaying around.
Experiencing night walk with no electronics, torchlights, proper equipment was amazing. Relied on one pathetically-lasting candle throughout. Since Ainah and I were the last pair, retook our own sweet time and enjoyed the view and pitch blackness. It was okay as there were 100 other species with us along the walk.
Hopefully when we gave our seats to the juniors and sat at the deserted road, they would be thankful that we’re so nice hahahahaha. A lot of salads (picked from the jungle) for us to taste. Man vs Wild.
First time in all the camps I have been through, I felt that it was meaningful (because I learned how to do a complete cup stack, haha kidding). Tons of photos to share but most of it is on Facebook.
Coach Zhi Hao was more than excellent.

Sunday, March 11, 2012 @ 8:15 PMSec 1 camp with my cadets :)
9-11 March. The three days before SNCO course.CLT Hamzilah was with us, and sec three’s were in charge already. Hahah being an instructor okay la uh. Night walk outside school was new and “campfire” aka light torch was so epic where we made teachers perform. First night was so epic when people got half righted somewhere somehow hahahahhahahahhahahahhahahha. You see, we weren’t the only UG camping in school. NCC was with us as well. NPCC’s camp starts on Saturday instead. Didn’t get much sleep but that’s okay. :D Joined Zhi Yao’s group for performance, 'pass the message through actions’ game and treasure hunt. SUCCESS :D ps; champions hehehe |

Friday, March 2, 2012 @ 7:20 PMSec 3 Camp
29 February- 2 March First overseas camp at tanjung piai with almost every sec three and our form teachers. In Singapore, the standard activities in a camp was rock climbing, trekking, flying fox, kayaking. We accomplished activities I never thought of such as tree climbing, jetty jumping and paintball. Jetty jump- you could actually feel that you’re speeding up while piercing through the air. Was unsure when I actually was in the water. Some of us had injuries above our left knee. The irony was that it all of us had the exact pattern. Planned our campfire performance in secret from our form teacher, Ms Yeo. We really surprised her. Our performance started with all the UG’s (red cross, npcc, bbrigade, ncc and ncdcc) marching in and saluting to the guests of honors (teachers). ps; 3E2 got best class. :) Labels: camp, Everyone was so enthu back to top? |
