Saturday, January 23, 2016 @ 1:11 AMChange in environment
I am currently at the stage where my friends are enlisting, sharing their NS lives, graduating JCs and moving on with life. But I realised there is a change in environment which somehow changed the way of how I looked at things. Or is it?
1) Smoking; it is so very common to see peers going on a smoke break, carrying packs openly. I remember the time where almost the whole world would judge you if you get caught with a pack of cigarettes. It's like an underage- extremist crime. Now, it has become a norm and just smoke la smoke your minutes away
2) Dudes with long hair; it's not a trend but it's also not a one in a million style. From my ears experience, there isn't much comment about dudes who can tie a ponytail. Unless, they have a girlfriend and he wants to meet the parents and that's where the problem arises.
3) Aggressive sports; doesn't look so aggressive to me. Maybe in lower secondary I would be so fascinated by seniors who go for kayaking expeditions, high elements dispatchers and anything with fast wheels. Upon graduation, I've took up three sports (or atleast tried)- rock climbing, inline skating and kayaking. Not as scary looking down a 25 meter wall, hanging on one rope and relying on your unreliable friend to belay you properly.
4) Gym; in secondary school, there's always that 2% of the population that works out and actually have noticeable muscles. From "WAHHHH you gym ahh?" to "ehh where you gym, go together?". I had no clue that it was okay to go alone. It was also okay to not know hhow to use every single equipment because there are too many damn. And, activesg and school gym means my money remains in my wallet. Thank you, thank you.
5) Tattoos; so meaningful. Couple of friends with tattoos and while some of it are meaningful and inspiring, others get it for their 18th birthday present from their mom wow, and some who has a tatt of their face.
6) Clubbing; people go clubbing on Wednesdays too; which I had no idea about because what the hell don't you have an 8am class the next day? As I try to study peacefully, there'll be a group talking about going to which club, or gossips about his xiao clubber girl, and debates on guys intentions of going . In class, out of class; out of 10 people, 7 has at least gone once. ps; convenient if your school allows you to wear whatever you want and you can just survive the day in the outfit and dont have to bring an extra set to change.
7) Coloured hair; it is not a sin my friend. In sec 2 I told my friend I wanted to dye my hair dark brown and he was in shock and I was confused of his reaction. Now, you have bright pink, blonde, grey, blue, seaweed+white, ombrey, bright red, every colour you can think of. And its everywhere but this time, gossips dont revolve around unique hairs anymore. Heh.
8) Nightlife; does not necessarily revolve around alcohol. We may have a stroll in different parks, inline skate, pizza party over and over, playing games at the playground (I'm not kidding), lame ol card games, blanket party, there is more to alcohol and hangovers. Going home at 12am is okay, you dont have to fear getting kidnapped because cameras are everywhere. They see us all.
9) Vulgar; all the damn time. I can't remember a day where my ears did not experience any foul language. "Ehhh fuck, wheres my phone" "Nabei, I miss my bus" "Cheebye, so long never see". I used to get scolded for saying "babi"; it means pig in malay. Really? I got scolded for that from my parents and teachers, really????? i once accidentally said it infront of a sec 1 and their faces were priceless- it was like I just stabbed someone and walked away.
10) Limited clothing; and I mean bottom boob, side boob, cleavage. Basically all the boob without the nipple. It's the nipple that people are afraid of. Butts I have seen oh so often due to the trend of very short shorts revealing a little of butt. It's okay, no one really be like "omg this is so new".
I thought about these because my perception when I was 13 or more like the perception that people around me had or wanted me to have is way different from now. It is not as crazy and gangsterous to have 5 piercings on one year and other stereotypes. Why has my views changed? Is it because I see/ hear/experience it everyday that it has become acceptable? Is it true that if someone is put in an entirely different environment, they would adapt to it and think that the whole world is like that?

Wednesday, December 2, 2015 @ 4:58 PMWhen was the last time you did something crazy for the first time?
As I seek to try new things and test my limits in different situations, never had a 50km hike stopped by my mind. Equipment wise, I was well prepared. Mentally wise, I had came to a realization that this is the longest route that I will be taking since I could ever walk. There were harsher terrains, undesirable weathers and heavier loads on my back and waist. But this one, I didn't know if I could last above 40km. But I did. How can marathoners even run??I took the same amount of time walking the last 10kilometers as my first 25. Well, it seemed like the route was never going to end. My buddy was the best person to hike with, encouraging me through stories, endless jokes that I couldn't resist from aching my invisible abs and understanding my limits. With or without blasting music, we moved forward and never turned back (after all the effort). The pain in my breaking feet was so overwhelming that my knee wound was easily forgotten. Mind over body is real. It is amazing and your body will get double the next day. And as teenagers, we can't recognize the importance of sleep thus we took our time and still cooked supper. Just in time for a 3 hour nap. Great. Good choices. When you want to have adventures with two different groups and your finals is nearing, you gotta choose one. Unless..... You introduce them to one another and everyone makes a new friend and I can spend time with both groups. Brilliant or brilliant? I have to say I'm impressed that these two bold ladies pushed themselves on the boulder gym and the rock wall. Finally I shared my love to more friends yessss.

Saturday, August 1, 2015 @ 11:13 PMIcamp 2015
I think I would never express my feelings enough if I did not write. We do have debrief sessions everyday, even after each training, or dance practice (yes we do), I mostly convey alot of feedback for others' and my improvement. This camp took 2 months of planning on my side and others were booking locations, food, admin, promoting the camp, choreographing our performance, creating camp cheers. And for my first camp ever in poly, I doubled the role of a committee (programme coordinator), game master and a group leader. I can't believe I survived it. This may come off as a conceit, but it's just me giving myself a pat on the back on my less-than-5-viewers blog haha. Purely no intention to boast.
It wasn't a sacrifice when I chose to go for meetings instead of my other cca because honestly, this cca is my priority. Meetings with group leaders, and committee afterwards; they end on average 10.45pm.
Designing the flag, identity, pre trial camp, trial camp, emailing, midnight calls for proposal submission, cancellation of activities. Our camp chief was struggling x3 with the stress. It didn't end there. There was still the camp and beautiful weather. And as a gl, a lot of my energy was drained from the night briefings.
I learnt too much to make a list from my roles and even from the campers. Never have I had the platform of meeting a bunch of adventure enthusiasts with cooking skills hehe. I experienced the "whatever decisions you make, it will never please anyone". I learnt to prioritize people over task very much.
And my challenge was my responsibility to give enough food, care and love for my bunnies back at the loft.
Mission accomplished.

Tuesday, June 16, 2015 @ 1:31 AMLeading a group is so awkward
Welcome to the polytechnic stage where you get to experience a lot of different kinds of camps.I am in my second year now but the role of a GL (group leader) is still very new and girl I AM SCARED DEEP DOWN. How to turn a boring game fun Our first station was about making shapes with a long rope as a team while we took away your senses (visual, hearing, verbal) and I didn't read the long ass training proposal details (oh why suzana why) but my lucky stars helped me out because I played this game in secondary 3 phew! Okay so the freshies were all blinded and muted except for the supreme leader in that round and instead of helping out my group, I went to entertain the other group with my mighty distractions. Before I realised, the other GLs had grass with them as they couldn't touch girls so they came out with their own weapons. One dude almost slapped me when I blew in his ear or something. And that was basically entertainment. What to do with extra time Surprisingly, our two groups were so fast that we ended early at the second station. It's good to have that teamwork but gosh we had 30 minutes extra and we with the help of the station masters, we merged groups and played the idk what is it named, "Guess who started the move" where 1 person is taken away and has to find out who starts the move that everyone is doing. And they were again, surprisingly good at it, can be Mediacorp's actors and actresses already.
How to remember names
You have a bunch of new friends going round introducing yourself and you try to mentally take note of every single of of it and its hard in the given time we had. And in the future trainings, they'll be like "Hey Suzana, remember me?". So I had such an intelligent plan. And the plan was to disguise my name so that every training they would get mind-screwed. It was a big fail, they figured it out eventually. My point is, its just hard to remember names so please gimme some tips if you have any thank you. (maybe I'm so used to having juniors having name tags on their uniform which is so convenient for GLs)
At the end of the training, made some lovely friends and I hope they learnt a little or two from this "teamwork training". It was successful due to those who came with an open mind and the organised and hardworking committee.

Friday, April 24, 2015 @ 11:46 PMSilent pledge
I experienced listening with my eyes and talking with my
hands.
We started our silent pledge in school before we traveled around
Singapore. It was one of the most eye-opening days because literally, we walked
in the shoes of the hearing impaired. My first 5 minutes challenge was not the
ayam penyet- because I could point to the picture to order, but the lady who
took the order and said to her colleague in a mother tongue “got mouth but
cannot open to use”. I guess I would get her frustration as she might see it as
a form of disrespect, and I didn’t even try explaining cause I had no clue on
how I should start. I walked away. So I didn’t buy drinks because the words
were so high and small I couldn’t possibly point accurately. That was my first
10 minutes of silence.
I can truly empathize from watching videos without sound, trying to lip read to the stares we received on public transports. It felt like we were a walking anomaly amongst the talking.
My brain and hands coordinated the most today and it wasn't a blue day like CLEOPATRA's (our group name) colour.
I loved it. I love that silence does not limit us from talking about anything under the sun. I love that signing with a group in public does not make me feel any discomfort. I love that I fell in love with this beautiful language.
ps; I missed my heartbeat performance :( as it was the exact timing as NCDCC 10 Years Day Parade.
yes, its tiring rushing in and out of camp sacrificing a little of both, but this is Suzana being happy. Shall write more in a new post.Labels: be patient., camp, Everyone was so enthu, exercise, Inhale love Exhale hate., Life is a test, melting, Mission accomplished, My bag was effing huge., You think you do but you have no idea. back to top? |

Saturday, February 14, 2015 @ 11:52 PMYEAR 1 ALMOST COMPLETE
Last exam tomorrow and then the fun begins!Things to accomplish this school break: Earn money Attend abseiling L1 course Learn to cook proper dishes Adventure with ODAC mates Climb like mad Kayak Adventure Training Camps at Ubin Uniform duties Other than jotting emotions and new experiences and converting it into words, I want to record the same memories through videos. And well..... My Sony Xperia Z3 Compact has actually been with me for about 5 months now and I'm learning more about it. It's a smaller version than the original one which is convenient enough for me to fit into my back pockets. And the funny thing is that it never occurred to me to do any research because when my previous phone cracked, my dad accompanied and sponsored me to purchase a new one on the day itself heheheheeh. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who needs that sudden emergency therapy. To the point where my school project required video making and my group was working on mobile devices. That's when I knew so much more. Well, I only bought it because of the waterproof function but there was more that I had not discovered. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 @ 8:55 PM4E2 to TB07
Kind of strange when you see your classmates grow and mature in poly when they were the exact opposite last year. Hmmm, I wonder if I had changed as well. It's hard to know, unless someone who had seen your past tells it right to your face. #tb07 is like 4e2 split into half. And the time spent with them is like a quarter of the 2 years with 4e2. Sometimes I'm thankful for the existence of Type A friends.
They say "Stress should be prevented to maximize productivity". True?
I disagree. The class works harder with that pinch of stress every time Alan opens his mouth. haha, it's like o levels every six months. But, with that something extra which is Sports and Wellness and external commitments, it's challenging my body strength. Apparently, it isn't as healthy as I thought it was. Plus, the first theory in ODAC was Knots & Lashing. Oh come on. hahahhhahaha. Darren's the only one who understands me for that 3 hours.

Tuesday, July 9, 2013 @ 1:03 AMFirst day of school.
Ever wanted to make everyone’s day but only had less than $5 left in your pockets?
By buying a ticket to go for N2 Fiesta, we’re contributing to a charity organization and supporting the student’s who planned the mini festival in the school canteen. Their efforts would not be put to waste if we attended! Shazlina and I decided to go to the stall with least crowd and apparently, they were selling balloons! Boy, there were 4 different designs to chose from with different colours. We got all the styles available and gave them to deserving people. There were so many to share the love around that we bought alot more! Smiles were all we wanted.
Well, we had fun running around the school :).

Saturday, May 18, 2013 @ 2:15 AMStuck outside
Have you ever felt that something would go wrong somewhere somehow? Shitty regret feelings, but know you can’t do anything to improve your situation? They say there’s always a choice. But not today. Today's my day because I'm currently locked out of my own house. Nono, not because I got kicked out or whatever. I just, assumed all will be well and mum would be home before I do. It’s shining bright here, there’s too many lights which is deeply appreciate tonight. Heh, should have visited town since ami invited. Ahhhh wasted opportunity. Eating at the jpark was the the backup plan with my classmates because mac didnt have enough seats. I am so lost right now I feel my burger and citrus fries and double choco frappe up at my throat. OHMYGOOOOSH THERE'S A RAT JOINING ME AT THE BUSSTOP WITH. It's like 2 meters away and exercising. Wow even a rat can run. Maybe this was all set for me, to witness the homeless animal and use it as a motivation to stay healthy. Cheh what am I talking about. It took me 20 minutes to capture one tiny tiny tiny tiny part of my companion. It wasn’t easy at all; weirdness overload.... Ok can a cockroach happily croosed over my shoes. Thursday, May 16, 2013 @ 11:31 PMCaught red handed
Last day of the Mid-year examinations and it’s my second time being a red little indian in school. I think I really can read people’s mind or really accurate insticts because I brought an empty sprayable water bottle. Just as I had expected, I got my hands on the picture below when some genius left his and my bag unattended. How konyol was I to almost drink it. Transferred it all into my water bottle, unseen and protected.But...... I knew the moment he walked towards me, I was so dead. Aku melangkah seribu kerana hatiku berdegup-degup tak henti. It seems like 2 dyes were involved too. I was determined to not surrender to let them create an ice kacang. While peacefully reading a magazine in the classroom, BAM GUESS WHAT. My own weapon was held against me and I didn’t have a shield nor defender. Im not gonna go to details on what the process of cleaning up the poison from my eyes was but I ended up red, again. This time, they have upgraded from food colouring to some smelly liquid. Sucha coincident how I wore the exact same red tshirt after getting watered. And I coulod blame it’s bad quality. Anyhoo, it’s only day 2 and I didn’t manage to do much. Have been running so much that I loss mass *applause*

Monday, April 22, 2013 @ 1:08 AMInter class games
ok that’s enough exercise for a month.
Because Jurong West does not have sports day, we have inter class competitions. Oh yes, other than debates, cleanliness and best class, we have sports competitions. :) My class didn’t even plan for who’s participating. We just came as a class and played when we wanted to. I had a ‘C’ on my beep for the games held at the Indoor Sports Hall. When we made our way to the parade square for semis, my role was ‘WD’ which if i’m not mistaken was the Wing Defender! Well we weren’t playing seriously so I got the opportunity to defend for the first time. It wasn’t easy, at all.
So yes I have influenced my classmates to join the Eight. If you have been following my recent posts, you would have known that I have been slowly spreading this pose to everyone :) Nothing wonderful. I just thought that it’d be cool.
While the girls scored 9 goals for netball, the boys.. didn’t score a single goal. It was hilarious watching them form above. Even so, we continued cheering them on although we expected them to be exhausted halfway running. Hahahha yes, we are proud of everyone that represented the class or even attended to support. I observed that they were embarrassed to face us as they lost 4-0 twice. It’s okay because we witnessed the entire match! ahahahha

Friday, April 12, 2013 @ 1:14 AMCross Country 2013
Timah: Eh want do what pose?
Suzana: Eight. *camera man takes photo*
Timah: Wtf was that?
hahahah because I am a rebel.
Recently, my main posts are all related to NCDCC NCDCC NCDCC NCDCC. Through my updates on this uniformed group, I hope readers gain knowledge on this new organization. OK ENOUGH SUZANA. So finally after 5 consecutive cd posts, it’s time for a break. Annual Jurong West Seconday School event which brings us out of the classrooms. Plus, we were dismissed an hour earlier than planned. *praise the good weather and no delays*
Stationed at 7, the only water point in the entire run, Chong Han was with me. The NCC boys were boisterous but enjoyable to be with. When the truck came to drop off water, we weren’t surprised to find students who tompang-ed at the back.
While waiting for the hall of shame for those who walked really slowly, I blasted pompoms over and over again until it went flat. There was this group of defiant little ones who wanted to take a shorter route. Actually a few groups tried that but no I was stern :)
Sometimes we direct the public. troll. Seriously paiseh. Did you know there are pompoms planted in Chinese Garden? It’s a fruit I just got to know! Similar to an apple, just that it’s poisonous. So if I take a bite, will I be like Snow White? No, this silences you. It poisons your throat and you won’t be able to utter a word again. WHY WOULD THEY EVEN PLANT TREES LIKE THESE?
It’s the third cross country. And I don’t seem to have other desires than Macdonalds every year. I change like an eagle. Plus, we had to conserve our energy for parade later on. Long bus ride back to school. So yes, the next update will be back to my current favourite topic.
By the way, if you assumed automatically that I didn’t run and used my parade as an excuse, you are wrong. I ran to the tentage before any group started. Being late helps me stay healthy.
It’s the season of fishing; if you know what i mean.

Thursday, March 28, 2013 @ 10:53 PMRandom day of the week.
A pencil lead pierced through my thumb and its finally out after a week and a half!
Just some overdue photos. And if bus buddy’s viewing this, HELLLO TAK MENJADI CLT.
Thanks to the rule of not using handphones for other things than communication with each other in camp, I didn’t manage to provide an album of 3D2Ns. Also, the person who left during mid camp came back with Hersheys! Mehehehe.
Which activity is a must-organise?
FINAL EX. Only in my year did we add in this event. It is a search and rescue mission where a team of cadets (usually 4) crawl their way in. They are required to apply what they’ve learnt, all the rescue techniques. As it is supposedly in a confined space, they are to squeeze through and rescue mannequins and other cadets of different weight and sizes out. Even an arm is to be saved!
Ofcourse, with the help of CLTs was the activity accepted. I got to experience being a victim for collapsing-building rescue in the dark and I finally understand how they feel. And if you need tips for final expedition,
Goodluck!
