Friday, December 23, 2016 @ 2:38 PMTrust Ipoh
1) Trust to take care of one another
Because we all have weaknesses, it is critical for everyone to look out for everyone. Pairing/ forced partnering wasn't necessary because it was natural to assist as a group. When people are initiative, there's no need for delegation. Some planned the activities, timetable, packing list, emergency contact, some drove, navigated, learnt how to use the aux cable, played music, some sacrificed portable chargers, some bought data for everyone to share, some paid for petrol and tolls, some brought games, some took videos and pictures, some carried the groceries for everyone, some were timekeepers, some took care of safety.
2) Trust for respect
About 4 years ago, I swore that I would never bathe if the bathroom door's broken. I broke that swore in this trip. It was comfortable because of the respect that we have for the preferences of one another such as sleeping time, food, fear, inability to gamble (HAHA), gambling without money (HAHAHA).
3) Trust to be punctual
Not sure if it's because we are all from Uniform groups where time is highly valued. The right balance between leisure and quick movement was met and it is the first time on a trip where we had situations under control very well.
No matter what activity we did, from the paid adventures like caving, water rafting, museum, laser tag to unpaid adventures like trips on the road, navigation, food hunt, grocery shopping, cards, long bus rides, pit stops, chilling in hotel rooms, they were all good.
When there's no judgement and all acceptance, its cool.
Spending/ person:
2 way coach $53.50
White water rafting + Caving $70
Hotel (3D 2N) $35
Trick Eye Museum Msia $4
Taxi $2
Car Rental $20
Petrol + Toll + Parking $5
Food (8 meals) $40
Snacks $15
Shopping $19
Happiness Free
Total $263

Tuesday, September 20, 2016 @ 2:29 AMSign to Mandarin
Learning a language is a commitment man. When there were performance trainings on top of the weekly classes after lessons, it was long and draggy and you just can't wait to go home to rest. The first time I used sign language in public, it was the most uncomfortable conversation ever. The stares, the eagerness to get a message across, the advanced speakers of sign language going on about a story that was 50% blur.
This arduous phase, with tolerance and determination, will be better.
2.0 Mandarin
Its grammar and sentence structure is slightly similar to Malay. I swear I can't differentiate between the second and third tone when practiced in a genuine conversation. Just like sign language, there will be the fluent speakers who may correct or laugh at you. Either way, these mini experiences is most important as what is taught on paper and audio is vastly different from native speakers' slang. I came across a few instances of random numbers in between words. Chinese culture is foreign yet familiar. For example: Kan yi kan
Wei shen me like that??????

Sunday, September 4, 2016 @ 1:46 AMAttachment
Today I revisited a weekly go-to place where we can vent, dance and sing for a few hours and enjoying a common sport at the same time. Do people actually attach themselves to places too? The walls have not tasted a new coat, the suffering aircon still leaks and shuts down once in a while, the bloody mattress still catches me even when it's weak and torn. The rocks felt equally sharp, I left with at least one contusion, we joked about being uncareful when belaying and our blasting phones were placed at the same mat as we danced our way up. We no longer text every single day to express our excitement for that week's Wednesday- that was the most exciting part. This was another short phase to show us that things happen for a reason, even if they aren't logical. We may try to make sense to it or give excuses for the people who aren't in our lives anymore or beat ourselves everyday to give ourselves closure. It's just that we took it for granted and looked at it as a joke when we said caring words and promises and WA so certain that the person that you fully trust your life with will always be watching you from the back, making sure that you're alright. Let's give ourselves a slap to wake us up from the Korean drama life and snap back to reality. People separate because we attract likeminded people, and the good thing is, we either grow together or outgrow another. But it's definite that at least one of us is advancing and that's enough. For that, I am thankful.I wouldn't say the perfect word would be "detach". I would feel it as a "no attachment". Labels: Awkward, Life is a test, My bag was effing huge. back to top? |

Wednesday, December 2, 2015 @ 4:58 PMWhen was the last time you did something crazy for the first time?
As I seek to try new things and test my limits in different situations, never had a 50km hike stopped by my mind. Equipment wise, I was well prepared. Mentally wise, I had came to a realization that this is the longest route that I will be taking since I could ever walk. There were harsher terrains, undesirable weathers and heavier loads on my back and waist. But this one, I didn't know if I could last above 40km. But I did. How can marathoners even run??I took the same amount of time walking the last 10kilometers as my first 25. Well, it seemed like the route was never going to end. My buddy was the best person to hike with, encouraging me through stories, endless jokes that I couldn't resist from aching my invisible abs and understanding my limits. With or without blasting music, we moved forward and never turned back (after all the effort). The pain in my breaking feet was so overwhelming that my knee wound was easily forgotten. Mind over body is real. It is amazing and your body will get double the next day. "Girls lets take a photo!" Too much class in a photo:
My fans can't take their hands off me:
After 141 photos, aint lying about the number: "Girls, we are here to study"
If studying at home means taking a 5 minute break that becomes 3 hours, lying in bed for awhile, having a rabbit that wants to play all the time, then go out, get someone to study with you and not get overly distracted catching up.

Monday, August 17, 2015 @ 5:17 PMI chose happiness
"Finals in two days and I chose happiness" Yes, I am very proud of my video skills and quality of video (High Def WOOOO). This was shot for fun and memories before Nadira left for a year. There was too much food that I had to painstakingly select the 20% pretty ones. Since I like to make a list and write and record videos, I merged all of them and here it is. Saturday, August 1, 2015 @ 11:13 PMIcamp 2015
I think I would never express my feelings enough if I did not write. We do have debrief sessions everyday, even after each training, or dance practice (yes we do), I mostly convey alot of feedback for others' and my improvement. This camp took 2 months of planning on my side and others were booking locations, food, admin, promoting the camp, choreographing our performance, creating camp cheers. And for my first camp ever in poly, I doubled the role of a committee (programme coordinator), game master and a group leader. I can't believe I survived it. This may come off as a conceit, but it's just me giving myself a pat on the back on my less-than-5-viewers blog haha. Purely no intention to boast.
It wasn't a sacrifice when I chose to go for meetings instead of my other cca because honestly, this cca is my priority. Meetings with group leaders, and committee afterwards; they end on average 10.45pm.
Designing the flag, identity, pre trial camp, trial camp, emailing, midnight calls for proposal submission, cancellation of activities. Our camp chief was struggling x3 with the stress. It didn't end there. There was still the camp and beautiful weather. And as a gl, a lot of my energy was drained from the night briefings.
I learnt too much to make a list from my roles and even from the campers. Never have I had the platform of meeting a bunch of adventure enthusiasts with cooking skills hehe. I experienced the "whatever decisions you make, it will never please anyone". I learnt to prioritize people over task very much.
And my challenge was my responsibility to give enough food, care and love for my bunnies back at the loft.
Mission accomplished.

Friday, April 24, 2015 @ 11:46 PMSilent pledge
I experienced listening with my eyes and talking with my
hands.
We started our silent pledge in school before we traveled around
Singapore. It was one of the most eye-opening days because literally, we walked
in the shoes of the hearing impaired. My first 5 minutes challenge was not the
ayam penyet- because I could point to the picture to order, but the lady who
took the order and said to her colleague in a mother tongue “got mouth but
cannot open to use”. I guess I would get her frustration as she might see it as
a form of disrespect, and I didn’t even try explaining cause I had no clue on
how I should start. I walked away. So I didn’t buy drinks because the words
were so high and small I couldn’t possibly point accurately. That was my first
10 minutes of silence.
I can truly empathize from watching videos without sound, trying to lip read to the stares we received on public transports. It felt like we were a walking anomaly amongst the talking.
My brain and hands coordinated the most today and it wasn't a blue day like CLEOPATRA's (our group name) colour.
I loved it. I love that silence does not limit us from talking about anything under the sun. I love that signing with a group in public does not make me feel any discomfort. I love that I fell in love with this beautiful language.
ps; I missed my heartbeat performance :( as it was the exact timing as NCDCC 10 Years Day Parade.
yes, its tiring rushing in and out of camp sacrificing a little of both, but this is Suzana being happy. Monday, December 29, 2014 @ 11:15 PMtank with the chiggas, angmoh, pinoy
This is my first dinner on 25th of December out with a bunch of friends and it was an enjoyable night indeed. I tried to capture everything before 2am in this video but I was caught up either with the cup/ball games, the snapchat war, video games, twister, continuous eating from 6pm to 6am. There were so much food that even when our tanks were full, consumption did not stop. Although Christmas commonly comes together with pork or turkey, everything was double confirmed halal with the specific stamp (except for one thing which I didn't touch). And I am the only Muslim but they still invited me awww. Gifts exchange was nice too, it has been awhile. Things I learnt? Climbing improves your flexibility thus you will perform better and sustain longer on the mat than before climbing. The team climbers attained the top 3 positions HURAYYY! Having stronger arms does not mean you are faster in handling cups. However, having stronger arms means you can pick friends up when they fall too right? HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA OK GOODBYE. Friday, November 21, 2014 @ 1:12 AMRegret
And now I am weak again.
What happens when a first aider is injured? Where's my first aider?
We should really practice a "cool down" session because we always ALWAYS forget to stretch because we would be too eager to bathe and eat. This is unhealthy and despite the many aches and tears, I have not learnt to be disciplined. It hurts it hurts. How do I apply the kinesio tape on my shoulder?
AIYAHHHH UBIN NEXT WEEK FASTERRRRRRRR DONT DO THIS TO ME.

-They throw rocks at me when Im climbing
-They wouldn't let me down from the rope
-They use me as an experiment as slam-dunked me
-They throw rocks at me while Im being lowered

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 @ 8:55 PM4E2 to TB07
Kind of strange when you see your classmates grow and mature in poly when they were the exact opposite last year. Hmmm, I wonder if I had changed as well. It's hard to know, unless someone who had seen your past tells it right to your face. #tb07 is like 4e2 split into half. And the time spent with them is like a quarter of the 2 years with 4e2. Sometimes I'm thankful for the existence of Type A friends.
They say "Stress should be prevented to maximize productivity". True?
I disagree. The class works harder with that pinch of stress every time Alan opens his mouth. haha, it's like o levels every six months. But, with that something extra which is Sports and Wellness and external commitments, it's challenging my body strength. Apparently, it isn't as healthy as I thought it was. Plus, the first theory in ODAC was Knots & Lashing. Oh come on. hahahhhahaha. Darren's the only one who understands me for that 3 hours.

Sunday, February 16, 2014 @ 10:36 PMWhere have I been? #1:Bangkok
I’ve been doing what I love with the ones I love. Shazlina and I finally rewarded ourselves after a month of cramming things such as C6H12O6 or about the author of Mein Kampf. It was exhausting yet we kept pushing although we goofed off alot. Flew to the City of Angels during the “unsuitable” time, but hey, guess who still has 10 fingers and still blogging? I love it, adapting to a new environment for a few days and trying to blend in.Honestly, I wasnt prepared. Together with the friendliest taxi drivers who learned english, japanese, arab, malay and chinese from his everchanging 10 minutes teachers, Shaz and I picked up some basic words because we are ba and tingtong. The best times was when I imagined myself being Nak from the movie ‘Peemak’ when we transported to the floating market.
Successfully completed all the transport.

Tuesday, July 9, 2013 @ 1:03 AMFirst day of school.
Ever wanted to make everyone’s day but only had less than $5 left in your pockets?
By buying a ticket to go for N2 Fiesta, we’re contributing to a charity organization and supporting the student’s who planned the mini festival in the school canteen. Their efforts would not be put to waste if we attended! Shazlina and I decided to go to the stall with least crowd and apparently, they were selling balloons! Boy, there were 4 different designs to chose from with different colours. We got all the styles available and gave them to deserving people. There were so many to share the love around that we bought alot more! Smiles were all we wanted.
Well, we had fun running around the school :).

Wednesday, June 12, 2013 @ 12:22 AMMy first skool.
Whats better than learning through experiencing it yourself? Nothing! I wasn’t really involved in the logistics for the first time. There were 3 activities: Games, Role play and Handcraft. The kindergarteners were so tiny I felt good. Hahahahah really mini. The most hyper one was Energetic Benedict. That’s what I called him. Though he got reprimanded byy his form teacher, I told him that it was fine to run around. We got comfortable with them till I just carried them as they were lazy bums. They’re actually intelligent but innocent. I tickled them individually (He zong, Peter and Balqis). I was caught off guard when they teamed up and started poking me everywhere. Dammit I had to control myself from squeezing their cheeks! ![]() Pui Shang just turned 16! She didn’t mind this project and didnt use her birthday as an excuse. She really enjoyed herself getting bullied by the cute boy. What did I contribute? I brought the necessary items plus a prop for the play. Apparently it was crowded in the classroom and only half of us could stay. While the rest were playing with paint, Education is a lifelong journey whose destination expands as you travel. I unconsciously influenced this boy antil he shouted “Jan from January. HAHAHHAHA, Jan!”. Labels: Everyone was so enthu, Fun, My bag was effing huge., school trip back to top? |
